Sentences (Capitalization and End Punctuation)
Capitalizations and end punctuations are two important components of sentences.
Nouns
Nouns are person, places, things, and animals. There are two types of nouns in these worksheets: Common and Proper.
Common nouns are regular words for person, places, things, and animals. For example: boy, dog, city, building, school, teacher.
Proper nouns are specific or special names for nouns. For example: Japan, David, Jennifer, Barky, Mr. Smith.
Plural Nouns
Plural nouns are used when you want to express more than 1 noun.
Rules For Spelling Plural Nouns:
- If the word ends in -ch, -sh, -ss, -x, -s, -o, -z add an -es to make it plural.
- Ex. 1 bench – 4 benches
- If the word ends in -y, change the -y to an -i and add -es to make it plural.
- Ex. 1 Strawberry – 4 Strawberries
- If the word ends in -f, change the -f to a -v and add -es to make it plural.
- Ex. 1 Wolf – 4 Wolves
- If the word ends in anything else, add -s to make it plural.
- Ex. 1 Chair – 4 Chairs
Pronouns
Pronouns are words that replace nouns. There are two types of pronouns that you will learn in these worksheets: Subject Pronouns and Object Pronouns.
Subject pronoun are used in the front of the sentence (before the verb). Examples of subject pronouns are: He, She, They, We, It.
Object pronouns are used in the back of the sentence (after the verb). Examples of object pronouns are: Him Her, Them, Us, It.
Verbs
Verbs are action words. In these worksheets, you will learn about action and non-action verbs, as well as verb tenses (past tense, present tense, and future tense).
Here are some rules for the verb tenses:
- Past tense verbs typically end in an “ed”.
- Present tense verbs are spelled the same or ends in an “s”.
- Future tense verbs start with “will”.
Irregular Verbs
Irregular verbs are verbs that don’t follow a specific spelling pattern when they’re turned into the past-tense form.
Some examples of irregular past-tense verbs are: went, gone, did, done, came. broke, and began.
Sight Words
Sight words are words that are used frequently, and readers need to recognize them instantly without sounding them out.
